Commands used in this guide
Here is a guide to setup your Twitch and/or Youtube stream above the 'bar' and in general get good quality streams and visuals that are optimal for enjoyed viewing.
This is still a WIP section, and we're looking at including a '"Streamer Preset" config in settings, that will set every setting according to what we think is the optimal way to cast/stream BAR.
The Checklist
Game Setup
Settings
- Increase camera Smoothness
This is needed so that panning has proper smoothing. Set it around 0.75 ±0.15 - Increased Sharpness around 1.05 ±0.2
- Disable volumetric clouds for better clarity.
Only leave on if you want more immersive streams - Disable Team Unit Platters (unless you're casting 8v8+ games)
- Disable Flanking Icon
- Declutter UI with turning off unnecessary range-rings (f.e. only keep anti-nuke)
- Have map-extensions enabled
- Disable Hardware Cursor for good animated cursors in stream
- Optionally disable cursor in OBS and use cursor highlight
- Make sure icon-size is large enough to compensate for motion-blur - increase them slightly above 'normal' size. (Adjust if you stream on 1440p)
In-game controls
- Use FOV of 35-40 (you can change with FOV changer widget)
- Clear Mapdrawings (ctrl-click on eraser icon to keep it clean)
- Frequently use middle-click mouse pan-drag mode for smooth camera-work
- Don't use too low camera angles (keep it mostly in default position)
- Don't rotate the camera-view (keep it aligned with the mini-map)
OBS software
- Always stream/record in minimum of 1080p 60fps
- YouTube Bitrate: CBR 10-15K for 1080p
- Twitch Bitrate: CBR 6.000 for 1080p
- Preset quality High / Profile High
- Use Game-Capture as your input
- Capture Specific Window is usually best (use spring.exe)
- Check Limit capture framerate to fix stream stuttering
- Set in-game Display Mode to ''Windowed'' in the lobby
Live Streaming Tips
- Stick to a good average zoom
This level should be good so that it still makes it possible to recognize units by their models - Don't jump around the map all the time
This will confuse or nauseate viewers - With some regularity you can zoom in and out
Zoom out to icon-mode for strategic overviews and zoom in to see all unit-details and explosions in its optimal glory. - Try to frame battles to fill the screen
Usually this is a tad closer than you regularly do while playing the game. - Use your mouse cursor to 'highlight' subjects of talk or interest.
Stream prep-checks
For official BAR Twitch Streams & Tournaments
Make sure everything is perfectly ready before going live. When the stream goes up you don’t want to meddle with volume balance or quality settings. This includes the whole setup with co-casters.
- Calculate the estimated length of the event.
Worst and best scenario » make sure all your co-casters are available, pay attention to time zones. - Make sure all roles are covered and it’s clear who is assigned to what.
The main caster has to focus only on casting. Ensure someone is managing Challonge, Figma, player herding, answering questions, moderating the chat, etc. - Make sure you have a “caster” role in the game server.
This so you are able to join all the battlerooms for the tournament. - Log in to BAR official Twitch.
Make sure your PC is remembered so you don’t have to go through 2FA. - One day before the event:
Run a dressed rehearsal with all co-casters and test all scenes, visual output (resolution and 60fps framerate), audio output and mic balance. You can use recordings to test it offline. - Run the game
F.e. use a replay of a game type, or join a live-game similar to what the event is about, check performance, game settings, pretend to cast a game for a minute and make sure it all works.
